Eye News
Established in 1994, Eye News is the UK’s longest-serving magazine dedicated to ophthalmology, featuring a wide range of content including interviews, feature articles, news, events and journal reviews. My work for Eye News and its publisher, Pinpoint Scotland, constitutes my “day job” and requires me to be involved in every step of the publishing chain. Now, I am not an ophthalmologist, and trust me, I will not be conducting small-incision cataract surgery anytime soon, but I am wholly invested in my work for Pinpoint as I am with any project I encounter; I want Eye News to succeed beyond its current state; I want it to evolve into something bigger, more comprehensive than it was before. To do this, I lean onto three of my key skills:
Project Managing
When it comes to managing multiple publishing projects simultaneously, working with periodicals can be testing. However, armed with my trustworthy, paper diary, I continue to drive the publishing journey for numerous monthly and bi-monthly publications, on deadline, every time.
Copywriting
‘Marketing’ is a vague term, as is ‘communication’, but at the heart of it all is a conversation. With my extensive background in creative and professional writing, I come equipped with the tools to identify and initiate these conversations with readers through refined, approachable, brand-aware copy.
Creative Development
This is the most exciting part, taking something great and figuring out innovative ways of making it even better. To do so, two things are required: imagination and a knowledge of your reader. Learning about who reads Eye News and what they enjoy prepares me to figure out creative ways of expanding that readership across other platforms, printed materials and geographic regions.
